The John Barsby Bulldogs will kick off spring early with their annual fertilizer sale fundraiser.

This year, the football team will have four dump-truck loads of cow manure delivered to the school’s student parking lot off Bruce Avenue. Gardeners can pick up 18-kilogram bags for $5 each.

“It’s top quality, two-year-old aged cow manure, donated by Cinnabar Valley Farms,” said Rob Stevenson, Barsby Bulldogs coach. “We’re doing this fundraiser to raise money to buy uniforms and protective equipment for our young people.”

The sale runs Tuesday to Thursday, March 5-7, from 3-5 p.m., Friday, March 8, from 2-5 p.m., and Saturday, March 9, from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., or while supplies last.

“It’ll be first-come, first-served. We sold out by Friday afternoon last year,” Stevenson said.

He said Bulldogs team members will shovel the manure into the bags and carry them to people’s cars.

“The first sign of spring is the Barsby manure sale,” Stevenson said. “We always do it every year going into spring break and it really helps us conduct our season and we’re most appreciative of any support from the community.”
