PUBLIC HEARING: Proposed Coastal Flood Hazard Development Permit Area - Electoral Areas A, E, G and H

Pursuant to Sections 464, 465 and 466 of the Local Government Act, the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) advises of a public hearing regarding official community plan bylaw amendments and a zoning bylaw amendment for the following:

• “Regional District of Nanaimo Electoral Area ‘A’ Official Community Plan Amendment Bylaw No. 1620.10, 2023”

• “Regional District of Nanaimo Electoral Area ‘E’ Official Community Plan Amendment Bylaw No. 1400.06, 2023”

• “Regional District of Nanaimo Electoral Area ‘G’ Official Community Plan Amendment Bylaw No. 1540.06, 2023

• “Regional District of Nanaimo Electoral Area ‘H’ Official Community Plan Amendment Bylaw No. 1335.09, 2023”

• “Regional District of Nanaimo Land Use and Subdivision Amendment Bylaw No. 500.445, 2023”

PURPOSE OF THE BYLAWS

The purpose of the bylaws is to create a new development permit area to address new building construction and subdivision of lands located within the designated coastal floodplain. The adoption of these bylaws will establish a consistent approach to determine how the impact of flooding will be reduced now and over the lifetime of development for new buildings with living spaces and/or parcel subdivision.

HAVE YOUR SAY

All persons who consider their interest in property to be affected by the proposed bylaws shall be afforded an opportunity to be heard in person or by written submission at the public hearing. Written submissions can also be provided in advance of the public hearing and must be received at the RDN office by 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 9, 2024, to ensure their inclusion in the public record. Please do not include personal or confidential information about yourself or others in your written submission. Written submissions may be made publicly available through the RDN website and on public meeting agendas.

WHERE CAN I INSPECT THE DOCUMENTS?

A copy of the proposed bylaws and relevant documents may be inspected at the hearing, online at www.getinvolved.rdn.ca/coastalflood-hazard-dpa or at the RDN Administration Office until July 10, 2024. The office is located at 6300 Hammond Bay Road, Nanaimo, B.C., open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding public holidays.

The public hearing for these bylaws will be chaired by Director Rogers, or his alternate as a delegate of the Board.
