We sadly announce the passing of Kurt Graugaard on April 22, 2024.
Kurt leaves behind five children, Kent (Jacqueline) Jorn (Linda) Michael, Sandra (Keith), Steven, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Predeceased by his wife Birthe, son Peter, brother Keld, sisters Sandra and Grete.
Kurt was born in Aarhus, Denmark on April 30, 1935, to Erik and Marie Graugaard. He married the love of his life Birthe in 1957 and in 1962 they immigrated to Golden BC, with their three oldest children. There the family grew even more with the addition of three more children.
Kurt worked very hard in the early years to provide a new life for his family in Canada. He was eventually hired and worked for the Department of Highways. He took a transfer to Prince George and then eventually to Nanaimo where he would retire at age 60.
During their retirement Kurt and Birthe enjoyed many years of travelling to Yuma during the winter months. Family and friends were very important to Kurt. You would always find him and Birthe hosting a traditional Danish lunch spread along with a bottle of Akvavit on the table.
Nothing brought Kurt more joy than a visit from his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the many staff and volunteers at Eden Gardens who took care of Kurt in his final years.
