BEEF To the laundromat, Shame on you for raising your prices to $3 for a normal cold wash that often comes out soaking wet. Then you spend $3.75 per dryer and still have wet clothes after 72 minutes. Laundry goes up. Wages do not. Not being able to afford three loads of laundry is a new one for me and I work full time. Depressing and stress-inducing.

BOUQUET To Dr. Allan at the Terminal Park Dental office. This very nervous senior went in with a broken tooth and she extracted it the very next day. Dr. Allan explained my options and all the steps but removed the tooth painlessly and I didn’t have any pain afterwards. I couldn’t believe it.

BEEF Whose idea was it to change the Departure Bay Beach parking to two hours maximum? Pity the single parent who wants to spend a morning or afternoon at the beach with little ones. After only one hour, 45 minutes, it will be time to pack up the kids, toys, cooler, blanket, umbrella, chairs, etc. and move the car. Repeat every two hours.

BOUQUET To the guest comment. It is unfortunate in this day and age, we are still having to explain what Pride Month signifies. It is equally unfortunate that there is so much hatred and division caused by certain high-profile politicians surrounding people’s sexual orientation, and even more unfortunate that there are so many people who still listen to and think this caustic rhetoric is acceptable and continue to spread the hate.

BOUQUET To Frontrunners for excellent customer service. I have been a loyal customer for years, and my last runners just didn’t fit on one foot. They provided the same level of excellence, when I was unhappy as when I was making a purchase. That says a lot about a business. The new shoes are perfect.

BEEF This page always begins with a bouquet first. It’s not called Bouquets & Beefs, it’s called Beefs & Bouquets. Get it right.

BOUQUET To the gentleman at Thrifty Foods at Longwood Station. Thank you for fixing my flap by the rear tire after someone tapped my car. That was so kind of you and probably saved me money as I now don’t have to go to the dealer. You made my day. Thank you again.

BEEF To grocery stores that force you to buy very large quantities if you want to get the sale price. This results in food being wasted which is bad for society and the environment.

BOUQUET To NT Jewellery at Country Club Centre. Replaced the battery in my watch and restored the Indiglo, promptly and economically.

BEEF To the party house in the hospital district for sending the RCMP and a fire truck to my home at night. Was that the DUI escape plan? They asked for their privacy to be respected yet they still have obnoxious parties, still speed, and yell at me if I get close to the fence. What else can I do?

BOUQUET To Amanda at Comfort Group Heating Nanaimo who went above and beyond in finding a part for our fireplace. She continued to check suppliers even after several unsuccessful attempts. Thanks for the great customer service.

BEEF To the strata for leaving a large pile of asphalt for more than a month. You ignore homeowners and do whatever you want. Disgraceful.

BOUQUET Huge thanks to Barron’s Home Appliances and their staff. Helpful advice and trustworthy service 25 years ago with our washing machine and the same last week with our air conditioner.

BEEF To diversity programs forced upon unwitting school children. It’s the same as making every baseball team have an 81-81 record at the end of the season, lest someone becomes easily offended that one should have a slight advantage over another.

BOUQUET Thanks to Bruce at CellPro, fixed our iPhone in half an hour. Excellent diagnostic work.

BEEF To the hotel with the ‘no breakfast’ sign. What kind of a welcome is that to visitors to Nanaimo? Why not say what you do provide or just say welcome to Nanaimo?

BOUQUET To having good, authentic neighbours who look out for and help each other. Thank you.

BEEF To the drivers who slow to a snail’s pace approaching red lights, stop it. Also, stop leaving two car spaces between you and the car in front of you. Traffic can flow better when you drive as you’re expected to drive. Consider ‘zippering’ for the merge action and everyone can move together. Come on folks, do better.

BOUQUET To those who feel they have been tricked into and held hostage by the electric yard/garden tool craze. There is a way out. It’s called gasoline.

BEEF This is to inform all tailgaters that I disputed an amber light ticket ($168 and two points) and lost. From now on I will be stopping for all amber lights. If you choose not to, and are behind me, I could use a new vehicle.

BOUQUET Thanks to C&S Transmissions for repairing my Ford Escape so quickly and efficiently.

BEEF To the beefer who wants to know where the money from carbon tax goes.  A very simple Google search will tell you everything you need to know. It takes less time to get this information than what it took to write and send in your beef.

BOUQUET To the internet for allowing me to ‘do my own research.’ After only an hour, I now know more about epidemics and other medical matters than all those so-called experts who have spent decades in education and work. I now have medical degrees from Facebook, QAnon, and the Queen of Canada.

BEEF To the boat owner near Long Lake. Be kind to your neighbours. Flushing your sea water out of the motor as babies are sleeping and people are on shift work. Do it at the marina please.

BOUQUET To Mary Brown’s for always having perfectly made food.

BOUQUET Many thanks to the Port Theatre for last night’s production of Michael Jackson History.  It was incredible, and by far the best stage performance we have seen. Such a delight for all who attended, and it was a full house for sure.

BEEF To folks with their bins permanently lined up in front of their homes like sentries, knowing we have bears in the area. Unsafe for your neighbours, your pets and the bears. Come on, you know a fed bear is a dead bear, so make room in your garages for those smelly bins.

BOUQUET To Dawn of B1tch Barn Creations for offering fun crafting workshops.

BEEF To my chickens for squatting in submission when I am walking behind them, which causes me to almost trip over them, but then run like the wind when I am actually trying to catch them. They do this on purpose.

BOUQUET Thank you to Monica at Harbour Air. My husband accidentally took my passport and only noticed when he went to check in for a flight to YVR. We were scrambling trying to figure out how to get it to him. Harbour Air let me send it for free on the next flight, so he was able to change his flight out of Vancouver with his passport in hand. Would have ruined his bike relay from Yukon to Alaska the following day.

BEEF To the roadside beer drinker in East Wellington. I’m a recently suspended cop who plays by his own rules and has nothing but time on his hands. Once I’m done collecting the evidence, I will find you, but I will not share the recycling profits.

BOUQUET To Ian W., who recently retired from Rotary after 41 years of service above self. His legacy with the downtown club includes integral work with the COGS bulletin, directory, AV, photography, website, etc; he also championed for the first female members to join said club, and kick-started the book sale. Further bouquets to those who reached out personally, and the club for making him an honorary member.

BEEF To the government at all levels. Wailing sirens, street mayhem at embarrassing levels, record drug deaths and an ever increasingly dissatisfied public. The best you can come up with is free houses, drugs and food and the shrinking tax base foots the bill? What a disaster.

BOUQUET To the City of Nanaimo crew that fixed up the bridge at Westwood Lake. We are so fortunate to have a great team taking care of our beautiful trails. Top notch job, thank you.

BEEF To the parents who continually put everyone in danger by illegally turning left from Dunbar to Metral after dropping off your kids at Pleasant Valley School mornings and afternoons. Top mention goes to the ones who are on their phones and throw lit butts out their windows. Guess you’re above the law? You’re on camera.

BOUQUET I would like to say what great customer service I received from Josh at London Drugs at Nanaimo North Town Centre. He was pulled in all directions and still managed to call another store to see if they had TV I wanted.

BEEF Well here we go again, still dealing with the same issue of school zone speeds. City staff spending time and money on this as well as a councillor who wants more studies and possibly to re-write the B.C. Motor Vehicle Act regarding school zones. Another waste of taxpayers’ money and the reason why many things can’t get done in a timely manner here in Nanaimo.

BOUQUET To Nanaimo parks and rec staff for marking hazardous root humps on the Parkway Trail. This makes a trip on the trailway safer and more pleasant. Perhaps a way can be found to cut down or smooth out the worst of these (some represent a tripping hazard to pedestrians as well as being dangerous for cyclists) until repaving is unavoidable.

BEEF Recently I had to replace a lost driver’s licence and was very impressed with the efficiency and empathy of staff here in Nanaimo. However when it came to providing ID, we had a (head office) problem. Providing my current passport, which is sufficient proof of identity in nearly every country in the world, is not sufficient for ICBC. They also require an embossed credit card – new credit cards which I have are not embossed. I respectfully suggest they may want to review their requirements.

BOUQUET To the young lady at Regional Recycling who saw a little old lady struggling with an oversized cardboard box and came to my aid. I really appreciated her help as I have arthritis in my shoulders. Thank you.
