The list of events to be included in the 2024 Salmon Arm 55+ BC Games has been announced, giving potential participants the winter to hone their skills.

Scheduled for Sept. 11-14, the Games will offer 24 sports and activities that are expected to see more than 3,000 participants. The diverse lineup offers a range in the physicality required, from bridge, cribbage and darts to pickleball, hockey and cycling, and everything in between.

As the largest annual multi-sport event in the province, they attract approximately 2,500 participants and require around 1,200 volunteers to stage them in the host community, with this being Salmon Arm’s first time.

“Salmon Arm, its natural beauty combined with enthusiastic volunteers, sponsors and supporters, will host the 2024 55+ BC Games for the very first time,” BC Senior Games Society president John A. Buis said in a media release. “We are confident they will be ready, willing and able to implement a great experience for the 55+ participants, their friends and family next September.”

The Games are primarily funded through the BC Seniors Games Society and provincial government, while providing a financial boost to the host city, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport Lana Popham noting that Salmon Arm will also see that benefit.

“City host Salmon Arm’s selection is creating great anticipation and enthusiasm from participants, coaches and fans whose visit will boost local businesses, hotels and restaurants in the region.”

The full list of activities includes: 3-on-3 basketball; archery; badminton; bridge; carpet bowling; cribbage; cycling; darts; dragon boat racing; equestrian; five pin bowling; golf; ice hockey; horseshoes; curling; lawn bowling; mountain bike racing; pickleball; slo-pitch; soccer; swimming; tennis; table tennis and triathlon.
